Samsung, Korean Semi Makers Launching S/T-DMB Chips
December 29, 2005
Samsung's System LSI has developed a DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) baseband supporting both satellite and terrestrial DMB for handsets and notebook PCs. Samsung has incorporated an integrated IC developed by Korean semiconductor makers -- including GCT Semiconductor, INC Technology, and Nexilion -- which can contain up to six DMB core components, such as baseband, RF tuner, and AV decoder, thus reducing the size and cost of DMB modules. GCT Semiconductor expects to launch an integrated IC with a baseband and RF tuner capable of receiving satellite and terrestrial DMB in 2006.
